St. Kitts and Nevis to host UWI Technical Advisory Committee Meetings

    (EMU) – St. Kitts, February 7, 2014:  The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis will host the annual meetings of the Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) to the Grants Committees of the University of the West Indies (UWI) at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, February 13-14, 2014.

     

    The Committees will review the Biennial Budgets for the period 2014/2015 & 2015/2016 of the four Campuses of the UWI (Cave Hill, Mona, Open Campus and St. Augustine), the University Centre and the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).
     
    The venue for the meetings is rotated annually, and since 1999, fourteen of the sixteen contributing countries have hosted these meetings.  The University has indicated that it is pleased that the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis has agreed to host the meetings for a second time, and appreciates the role of the Ministry of Education and Information, in collaboration with the Open Campus, in making arrangements this year.
     
    The meetings will commence with an Opening Session on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at which The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St Kitts & Nevis  will deliver the keynote address, and the Honourable Nigel Carty, Minister of Education & Information will deliver remarks.
     
    Participants at the two days of meetings will include Permanent Secretaries and senior officers from the Ministries responsible for tertiary education of the sixteen contributing countries and the Ministries of Finance of the Campus Countries (Barbados, Jamaica & Trinidad and Tobago).  The Senior Executive Management team of the UWI including the Vice-Chancellor, Bursars, University Registrar, Principals, Pro Vice-Chancellors, the UHWI Medical Chief of staff and CEO, will also be in attendance.
     
    Additionally, the UWI Open Campus, St. Kitts and Nevis will host the St. Kitts Premiere of the celebrated documentary Forward Ever: The Killing of a Revolution on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 7:00pm at Caribbean Cinemas at 7:00 p.m.  The purpose of this event is to raise funds for flood victims in St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Dominica.  
     
    Prior to the two days of meetings, Professor E. Nigel Harris, Vice-Chancellor, UWI, will pay courtesy calls on the Prime Minister Hon Dr. Denzil Douglas and Minister of Education and Information, Hon Nigel Carty.
