Footballer not guilty of sexual offences

By: Court Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE national footballer who stood trial last week for two sexual offences, walked out of the Basseterre High Court on Friday (Feb. 7) a free man, totally exonerated of the charges.

A 12-member jury found him not guilty of the charges that were laid against him after a few hours of deliberation.

The alleged incidents were said to have been committed in June and October of 2011 and the accused was arrested on November 6, 2011. He was later charged on two counts of rape and two counts of unlawful carnal knowledge.

Ten witnesses gave evidence on behalf of the prosecution which was lead by Counsel Greatess Gordon assisted by Director of Public Prosecutions Travers Sinanan.

When the prosecution rested its case, representatives for the accused Dr. Henry Brown QC, Hesketh Benjamin and Marissa Hobson, made a no-case submission which was dismissed by His Lordship Justice Darshan Ramdhani.

The accused did not testify and his defence attorneys did not call any witnesses to give evidence on his behalf.

Following the judge's summation of the evidence, the jury retired for deliberation early Friday afternoon and the young man walked away without conviction hours later.
