BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWO unlawful carnal knowledge appeals that were set for hearing at this sitting of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court of Appeal, were adjourned to the next local sitting in June, 2014.

The appeals were those of Craig Bradshaw and Keithley Griffin, both of whom were separately convicted by 12-member juries and sentenced for the sexual offences.

Bradshaw was appealing his 20-year prison sentence for the offence which was perpetrated against a girl of 13-years.

According to evidence presented at trial, the offence was committed at West Street, Basseterre between July 24 and 25, 2009.

On Monday (Feb. 10), Bradshaw's attorney John Cato asked the Court for an adjournment of the matter so that the appellant could pursue an appeal against both conviction and sentence as well as to make amendments to the ground of appeal.

The Justices of Appeal, in granting the adjournment, imposed a time limit for which the appellant has to file and serve the Director of Public Prosecutions' Chambers with the amended grounds of appeal and submissions for the arguments that would be presented.

This is to be done by March 10, 2014.

Griffin was represented by Dr. Henry Browne QC and Hesketh Benjamin and would be appealing both conviction and sentence.

On Tuesday (Feb. 11), they too requested an adjournment of the matter which was granted by the Court.

Likewise, a time limit for which they have to file and serve their submissions was imposed. These submissions have to be handed in by March 31, 2014.

The respondent (DPP) would have to hand in their reply by April 30, 2014.

It is expected that they would be disposed of during the June 2014 sitting of the Appellate Court.
