BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT’S one month to the day you will be walking down the aisle, hundreds will be in attendance and you would want to look your best. Well, a medically-trained make-up artiste is right here in St Kitts ready to wave her magic wand and make all your beauty dreams come true.
According to certified make-up specialist, Dr. Ivy Uju Ilonzo, her first job was a pageant make up artiste back in 2011 in her native country of Nigeria, where the young women who she got ready for the big night eventually won.
“I have done make up artistry for traditional African weddings, and Christian weddings, even music videos and fashion shows internationally,” the make-up artist told SKNVibes Business.
Ilonzo, who recently graduated from Windsor University of Medicine, St. Kitts added that since she started about a year ago, he clientele has grown to more than 50 satisfied customers, all from the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis.
When asked how she would define make-up artistry, the doctor had this to say, “I think make up is just a tool used to enhance the beauty you already have and to make you look more radiant.
“I noticed these days people use make up to change the way they look, which is ok if that is what they want but I believe it should just improve the way you look”, Ilonzo said.
The artist revealed to SKNVibes Business that for her artistry, she only uses make-up products such as the Iman and MAC brand for her darker to moderate skin-toned clients.
“I would also use Mary Kay products but there are rarely sold her so when I go back to Nigeria I will have to bring back some,” Ilonzo explained.
Make-up artistry is not only the services this young entrepreneur provides, Ilonzo told this publication that she also does consultation for women who are not sure about their make-up choices and shades.
“If you don’t have the right tone for your colour you can visibly tell the difference when you put on the actual product and I can also teach them how to put on make-up,” the artiste clarified.
In her advice to women about their beauty and skin care, Ilonzo said, “I have been in town a lot and I have seen a lot of women but my advice is that if you want to look enhanced all you have to do is change the shape of your eye brows, you can look sexy, mean or beautiful.”
As St. Kitts is her first market, Ilonzo told this publication that she has big dreams of working for big names such as the Annual Victoria Secret Fashion Show or even an international pageant such as Miss Universe.
In her remarks to future and prospective brides of St. Kitts, Ilonzo gave a bit of advice.
“I just want to say your wedding day is a very special event and it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so looking good is one of the most important things you need to do. You also have to be careful with the type of make-up you use because when it comes to capturing those unforgettable moments you don’t want to look back and have regrets.”
