BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH the IAAF World Indoor Championships less than a month away, four male athletes from St. Kitts-Nevis have already meet the qualifying criteria for the games which are expected to be staged in Poland.
In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes Sports, Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA), Evris Huggins revealed that though the team has not been selected, four have already attained the standard.
“The team has not been selected as yet. The qualification is still open. As soon as we get our numbers up we will be happy to announce who the team is.
“According to the performance standards, we have four male qualifiers, Kim Collins (6.55 seconds), Brijesh Lawrence (6.62 seconds), Antoine Adams and Jason Rogers. Based on their performance in the 100m outdoor, that would make them eligible as qualifiers.
“Brijesh Lawrence is in good form and just attained the qualifying mark for the Men’s 60m for the World Indoors. We are very excited, we are in a very good place.”
He added that the selection committee would have to meet and decide who will be the meet’s participating athletes.
“As you know, it is two athletes per event. The selection committee and the SKNAAA Executive would have to make the decision as to who would be able to participate.”
The Championships will be held at the Ergo Arena, city of Sopot.
