BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - KITTITIAN sprint icon Kim Collins captured third place in the 60 metres at yesterday’s (Feb. 16) British Athletics Grand Prix.

In a highly-competitive encounter, Collins had to settle for a bronze medal behind the likes of British sprinter James Dasaolu and Nesta Carter of Jamaica who took first and second respectively.

Collins finished in a time of 6.55 seconds.

According to a report by the associated press, Dasaolu however appeared to have injured himself during the race after which he left the track on a wheelchair with an ice pack on his left hamstring.

“My left leg felt tight at about 40-50 meters,” he said, “I think it’s cramp, but I’ll go and see the doctors and see what they say.”

Dasaolu won his heat in 6.47 seconds - the fastest time this year, before winning the final in 6.50 seconds.

The injury could be a potential blow for Dasaolu because he could miss the World Indoor Championships.

The women's 60m saw an upset, with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica having to settle for second place as Murielle Ahoure emerging victorious.

Genzebe Dibaba produced her third record performance of the month on Saturday (Feb. 15), with the Ethiopian racing the fastest two miles at the Birmingham Grand Prix.

Dibaba has already broken the indoor 1,500 and 3,000-meter world records this month as she prepares for the World Indoor Championships next month in Sopot, Poland.
