CHARLESTOWNN NEVIS (February 13, 2009) -- Good news came Friday when the Bedrock Exploration and Development Technologies (BEAD) drill crew from Lennox Petroleum Services Limited struck what they termed a fair amount of good quality water in the Hamilton area.
Bedrock Exploration and Development Technologies’ geologist and geophysicist for the ground water development project on Nevis Mr. Jerrod Davis, told the Department of Information in the presence of Junior Minister of Communications, Works, Public Utilities and Posts, the Hon. Carlisle Powell that preliminary testing showed positive results.
“We are down to about 397 feet right now and we are getting anywhere from 220 per minute in water the quality is quite good.
“We are continuing to drill and we are monitoring the well every 20 feet for quality standards so we know when to stop the production because some of the wells on this side of the island have a higher iron content but right now it does not show any iron and it seems to be a very good source of water, better than we expected,” he said.
In response to the find Mr. Powell explained that the Nevis Island Administration in its continued drive to provide an adequate supply of water for the people of Nevis had added a clause to an initial contract with BEAD which extended the drilling operations to provide an extra 500,000 gallons of water.
“BEAD continues to do their drilling and we are happy to report to the people that they have found a more than adequate supply of water in Hamilton. Of course we would know how much until the pump testing is complete and that would be done very shortly. But the good news is that we have been able to find more water for the people of Hamilton, Charlestown and Nevis,” he said.
Meantime, Lennox Petroleum Services Limited’s Operations Manager Mr. Carlisle Charles who was on hand at the drill site noted that drilling had commenced on February 5th and said they had not encountered any difficulty with drilling so far.
“While drilling to our present depth, we have encountered a fair amount of water in the region. We have gotten about 250 gallons a minute which is with our testing in the field. To confirm that, on completion of the well, we will conduct a pump test over a three day period which will confirm what our long term yield is going to be, so we would then be able to say what it can truly do but for now the water quality is good and the drilling is not that bad.
“Based on instructions from our geologist we are targeting about 500feet and we should be there in the next couple of days give or take everything goes alright,” he said.
