BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - YOUNG Kittitian sprinter Jason Rogers on Saturday (Feb. 15) joined the world’s elite in sprinting after he clocked the third fastest time in the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) region and seventh fastest in the world for 2014.

Participating in a meet in Canada, Rogers won with a time of 6.52 seconds, one of the fastest times in the world for 2014 and the fastest athlete from the Federation for the year.

President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) Glenville Jeffers commented on Roger’s recent achievement and expressed shock at the 22-year-old’s performance.

“Last night when I saw the results and saw a short clip of the race...I was very impressed with Jason’s performance. When I saw 6.52 seconds, I said wow! Jason is back to his form, with his quick start. And when he gets his quick start, it is very hard to catch him.”

He added that he had a recent conversation with Rogers’ coach and is confident of more elite performances in the future.

“I think he is on track. I spoke to his coach Desai Williams and he said that he is focused and is now clicking on all cylinders. You never know he might get to 6.49. He has that potential in him and I wish him success for the season and to continue his preparation for the World Indoor championships.”

Rogers helped win a bronze medal as a part of the 4×100m relay at the 2008 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Cali, Colombia.
