OAS signs Scholarship Agreement with international university

By: Melissa Bryant, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Instituto de Empresa (IE) Business School in Spain have signed a Collaboration Agreement to facilitate the participation of students from OAS member states in the school’s Masters in International Management programme.

The programme will commence in April this year and offers three scholarships of up to EUR$12 800 and one of up to EUR$24 000 for a one-year study period in Madrid, Spain.

Through the Collaboration Agreement, the OAS and the IE will facilitate students from OAS member states with limited economic resources to access scholarships for training in managerial studies.

According to a press release issued by the IE, it is the school’s hope that scholarship recipients would return to their home countries and contribute to its professional and business development.

“In the environment in which the global economy is living in 2009, the formation of executives and directors is vital. Not only in subjects like finance or management, but also in areas such as leadership and responsibility in the business field; aspects which have become much more necessary than before to bring back confidence to the markets,” said IE Director of External Relations Gonzalo Garland.

The Federation’s OAS Representative, Starret Greene, stated that the initiative is part of his organisation’s commitment to meet the demands of its member states.

“Education is recognised as one of the main themes of action for strengthening democratic institutions, the promotion of development, human potential, equality and comprehension between communities. Increased educational capacity will positively influence economic growth and the eradication of poverty,” the diplomat stressed.

The deadline for applications is March 2 and the publication of the official results will be released later that month. Applicants will be assessed on their previous academic and/or professional experience in international and multicultural surroundings.

Further details about the programme can be found at www.educoas.org or www.ie.edu.
