St. Kitts-Nevis' Team UNITY Leader Dr. Timothy Harris thanks St. Vincent and the Grenadines Opposition Leader Hon Arnhim Eustace for his courage

Team UNITY Leader Dr. Hon Timothy Harris

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, February 23rd, 2014  --  The distinguished Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of Vincent and the Grenadines has come in for high praise from Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, the man designated to serve as Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis by a majority of elected Members of Parliament in St. Kitts and Nevis.

In a radio interview with WinnFm’s General Manager, Dr Harris thanked the Hon. Arnhim Eustace for his courage and bravery, to speak out on a significant matter affecting good governance and democracy in St. Kitts and Nevis.  The Hon. Arnhim Eustace, a former Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in St Vincent and the Grenadines, currently the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, told the regional media that it is a shame that CARICOM Heads are ignoring the subversion of democracy in St Kitts and Nevis.

Hon. Eustace’s comments followed a landmark ruling in the Motion of No Confidence case in which the Court ruled that the elected majority had a constitutional right to file the Motion of No Confidence and have it debated in Parliament urgently.  The Judge warned that whenever there is an infringement of the constitution and a violation of the law, the Court can intervene in the affairs of Parliament.

In what is considered a decisive body blow at the legitimacy of the Douglas regime, the learned Judge said that in a constitutional democracy a Prime Minister needs the validation of the majority of elected Members of Parliament and the right to government flows from the acceptance of majority rule.  The Prime Minister’s authority should be validated by a majority of the Members of the Parliament.

Denzil Douglas does not command the support of a majority of elected Members of Parliament.  He is in the view of many now, an impostor in the Office of Prime Minister.
