Collins claims positive discussion on possible return

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - VETERAN Kittitian Sprinter Kim Collins has stated that he is hopeful of a return to competing for St. Kitts and Nevis following positive discussions with the relevant authorities here in Federation.

Collins was infamously sent home during the London 2012 Olympics for visiting his wife at a hotel and vowed to never represent St. Kitts and Nevis ever again.

In January Collins disclosed that his fans have persuaded him to change his mind.

“I don't want to jump the gun and say yes to running at the Commonwealth Games, but deep down I'm thinking it's more possible now.
"The fans have stepped up and said, 'Hey, we want to see you'," said Collins in late January 2014 to BBC.

He further declared, "I have to acknowledge that because these are the people who make things happen in track and field. Based on that, I'm thinking that I really should return and one of the big things is that there is not really a big replacement; nobody has really stepped up to carry things on.”

Collins was hopeful that consultation could take place between himself and the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA).

In a recent interview with SKNVibes Sports, SKNAAA Public Relations Officer Evris Huggins claimed that the Association might be open to discussions with Collins.

“The new Executive has not discussed any matters outstanding with Mr. Collins. I think that the new Executive would have to get the facts on the circumstances following Mr. Collins

“I am quite certain that should there be a discussion on the table about Mr. Collins, Mr. Collins would have to be a part of that discussion in order for us to come to an agreement and move forward.”

In an interview with the Voice of Sport, the former world 100m champion claimed “positive discussions with the powers that be has left him feeling hopeful about the future.”

He said: “We just need to keep talking and agree on how we are going to move forward. Where the World Indoor Championships are concerned I don’t think I am ready to agree with the terms, not because it's too soon, but because we have to communicate exactly what they are, what we agree on and what we don’t.”

Collins was also confident of representing the Federation at the Commonwealth Games.

"There is a lot going on in my country so I am really looking forward to getting my situation resolved so we can move on, clear the air and understand that we want a common goal where the sport is concerned.

    "It shouldn’t be that difficult."
