BASETTERRE, St. Kitts – INDIVIDUALS across the Federation and further afield who enjoy the use of the Whatsapp mobile application, will soon be able to enjoy a voice feature which will become part of the application.
According to Whatsapp Chief Executive Jan Koum, the feature would be similar to that of Skype and it would be readily available across all platforms. He was at the time making a presentation at the World Mobile Congress on Monday (Feb. 24) in Barcelona, Spain.
“We are making sure that people always have the ability to stay in touch with their friends and family and loved ones easily and affordably.”
Chief Executive Officer of Facebook, Mark Zuckerburg - who is presently attending the Mobile World Congress - spoke on his new acquisition of Whatsapp, indicating that it is worth more than the $19 billion acquisition cost.
“And what it’s going to be worth and then there is the strategic value and what we can do together. I just think it by itself is worth more than $19billion dollars,” he outlined.
He noted that it is not all about making money off of the new acquisition but rather to link individuals all across the globe; that is the primary aim for the Whatsapp and Facebook alliance.
“The reality is that there are very few services that reach a billion people in the world and they are all incredibly valuable if we can do a pretty good job but I with helping whatsapp to grow and this is just going to be a very big business. For us it’s this vision of connecting the world but I just felt its and important thing and if we do something that’s good for the world eventually we would find a way to benefit from it someway.”
Currently what is being offered by Whatsapp are small clips or voice notes.
