‘Sparta King’ returns to Jamaica after weekend in Dominica

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER being incarcerated over the weekend in Dominica due to denied entry into the country, Jamaican Dancehall artiste Tommy and band were set to return home on Monday (Feb 24).

According to the Jamaican Gleaner, the artiste, whose given name is Leroy Russell, and three members of his party, spent the night in lock-up after landing at the Melville Hall Airport. He was scheduled to perform in Portsmouth.

“The entertainer's manager, Junior 'Heavy D' Fraser, told the Jamaica Observer that their legal representative in Dominica will be taking up the matter. They (the immigration officials) said we were not being arrested. Yet we were jailed and not even given any reason why... It was inhumane treatment. I have to ask 'What is Caricom for?'," the observer reported.

However, the Jamaican dancehall artiste was undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Marigot, Dominica prior to being deported on Monday. This is according to his lawyer, Tehani Behanzin.

“We are waiting to see what happens. He has been complaining of pain in his leg, because he has some kind of metal in his leg because of an accident some years ago and he was made to sleep on the cold concrete last night.

‘We tried our best to negotiate some cardboard for him to sleep on but that wasn’t very successful and the cold has affected his legs and now he is …suffering from muscle spasm and blood clotting in the legs”.

Lee still have some shows scheduled in Suriname and French Guiana in April and May respectfully and will now be focusing on the tour days. Sparta, in recent times, has been making the news and was recently charged for breaches under the Anti-Lottery Act. He is booked to appear in the Half-Way-Tree Court.
