BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IT is believed that most athletes enjoy the best performances between the ages of 25 and 33 but for sprint icon Kim Collins he continues to defy ‘Father Time’ with constant improvements year after year.

At the age of 38 Collins, continues to amaze many sports enthusiast with his ability to improve on past performances despite being near the 40-year mark.

Just yesterday Collins set a new National Record and Personal Best in the 60m which also is the fourth fastest time in the world for 2014.

Many wonder how Collins is able to do accomplish these feats at his age.

Aside from the obvious rigorous training regime and healthy lifestyle, in 2012 Collins claimed Black Spicy Caribbean Sauce was one of the factors behind his speed.

Collins, the 2003 100m World champion, said: “I travel with this sauce wherever I go – it always goes on my food when I am away running.

“It’s a hot pepper sauce but more flavoury than the normal burn-your-mouth hot sauce. If you find the food tasteless abroad, it makes it more enjoyable. It’s deadly to drink but basically gives my food a proper taste. I can’t say for sure that it actually helps me run faster – but it’s never done me any harm.”

Following his triumph yesterday, Collins revealed another of the secrets to his stamina and continued success.

“It feels great and I know that 6.4 has been escaping for a while but the atmosphere is great the track is a very fast track. There is a 10,000 hour rule that once the body trains for a task and you prepare for a ceratin amount of time it gets better.”

He added that his body is now at the point where he it is experiencing its best performances

“I am at the point where my body is getting better and science has proven that once you train the body you get better with age.”

He was also asked if he feels he can run faster.

“Yes definitely. You see my start has not been great but the finish is very strong and I was able to get the strong finish to not only run a personal best.”

In 2013 Collins became the oldest person to run a 100m below 10 seconds while setting a new National Record in that event.
