Family searches for run-away teen

14-year-old Jhalesha Carey

Basseterre, St. Kitts-  The family of a Saddlers teen is making a public appeal for information in an effort to locate the troubled girl who has been ‘missing’ since last Monday (Feb. 9).

14-year-old Jhalesha Carey, a 3rd form student at the Cayon High School, apparently left her home last week, taking with her some clothes and her birth certificate. She has not been seen since.

According to the young girl’s half-sister, Amanda Stapleton, Jhalesha left for school that morning, returned during the course of the day and then left for parts unknown.

“Her mother works in Cayon and when she came home she met the house open and some of Jhalesha’s clothes and her birth certificate missing. She contacted the police and they took statements. She has not heard from her since,” Stapleton told SKNVibes.

The 5’ 5’’, approximately 100-pound girl had pulled a similar stunt on Feb. 1, returning home some 3 days after her disappearance. Stapleton said Jhalesha told police she had problems at the home she shares with her mother and her mate, along with 6 other siblings. Stapleton said Jhalesha had threatened to kill herself on more than one occasion.

“The last time she ran off she was seen in Challengers. The police brought her back and she promised to behave and not do it again. This time her mother figures she has done the same thing but unlike last time, no one has said they have seen her anyplace.

That is my little sister so I’m really worried. Where is she? I don’t know if she is being held, if she is begging shelter and food. I have to look for her, I can’t just assume she’s ok,” Stapleton bemoaned.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Jhalesha is asked to contact her sister Amanda at 660-3845 or the nearest police station to facilitate her safe return home.
