Modern Funeral home officially opens its doors

Ceremonial ribbon cutting

BASSETERRE St. Kitts – LIAMUIGA, the newest funeral home in the Federation, officially opened its doors to the public yesterday (Feb. 27). The lavish facility - owned by Dr. Duanne Jones - is located at Lime Kiln Development.

The owner and staff expect the facility to stand out from the competition as it provides a cozy interior with warm and inviting colours and affordable burial packages.

The building boasts two rooms where two services can be held simultaneous; it also has a waiting area which guests can occupy if need be.

During the ceremony, Jones presented a plaque to the Hazeline Maynard - mother of his best friend  Terrrence ‘Tupac’ Johnson, the death of whom gave him the inspiration to construct the funeral home.

SKNVibes understand that Jones was unhappy with the service provided to his deceased friend before he was laid to rest, and as such he built the home in recognition of his friend.

Dr. Jones explained to SKNVibes that the funeral home would provide top-notch customer service, a qualified embalmer and all funeral arrangements would be taken care of under one roof.

“We model the service with compassion. The facility alone speaks for itself, and the staff is well and beyond what is expected. So the customer service and like our motto says ‘service with compassion’.

“What we provide here is a different level of service. When you come here everything can be done in one setting. We know that it is a very sensitive time for families and they know that they can come here and everything can be taken care of; from the arrangement, the cemetery, to the flower shop… And we have some of the most experienced staff members (such as) the funeral director Mr Wilborn,” Jones explained.

Presiding man-of-the-cloth Pastor Ronald Taylor - in blessing the facility - emphasized that this new venture would bring a whole new meaning in the grieving process.

Dr. Jones’ daughter - Amiar - was on hand to cut the ribbon officially declaring the establishment open.

Present at the ceremony were the Hons. Dr. Timothy Harris and Sam Condor and his wife, Matron at the Joseph N. France General Hospital Ms. Finley, Pastor  Lincoln Connor - who gave the opening prayer and the District Governor for the funeral directors of the United States Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands Delva Turnbull, and staff of the home.

A tour of the facility was offered to the attendees after the declaration was made.
