BASETTERRE, St. Kitts – THE level of comfort of residents of the Cardin Home is expected to be increased, thanks to a donation which was made yesterday (Feb. 28) by Doctors and students of the Windsor School of Medicine.

The donation took the form of a number of fans which would be used to help keep the residents cool, especially during the upcoming warmer months.

Dr Brijinder Gupta of Windsor University - who handed over the fans - said this venture was one which was planned a long time ago. He said fund raisers were held during the previous year to accumulate money for the donations. He noted that they are currently undertaking programmes and making lots of donations to various institutions around the country.

“The St Kitts government helped us to establish the school...and at this stage we are having more than 500 students on the campus and  we are having lots of activities in the communities...,” he explained.

He added that several of the clinical students of the institution visited the Cardin Home and management there made a request for assistance for the elderly.

“We said from time to time we can help so we got them some fans  because we know this a hot country and they should be comfortable … today also we are giving some fans to the pediatric ward of the JNF hospital.”

He stressed that they would continue to reach out to the community by holding several “camps” in various communities around the country which would be geared at helping persons be more health conscious.

The President of the Clinical Arm of the University - Obi - expressed his appreciation to “Bobby and Rita” for their contribution in making the donation possible. He explained that they were very instrumental in raising funds which helped to procure the items.

“With their help and the help of the volunteers who actually came out that day to help with the event, this is the culmination of their effort so we want to appreciate everybody who assisted one way or the other and the sponsors too... they must be thanked for their efforts.”

Supervisor of the home, Gail-I Cranston - who expressed gratitude for the donation - stated that it would go a long way in assisting the members of the home which currently caters for some 76 elderly individuals.

“This donation is actually timely and I feel it would be of much benefit to the residents and it would make them much more comfortable in the environment.”

The home is a governmental center which houses and cares for elderly citizens.
