Grievous bodily harm trial begins

By: Court Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE trial of Bryan Murray - who is charged with grievous bodily harm - began yesterday (Mar.3) at the Basseterre High Court.

Murray is said to have stabbed Albert Millington Jr. in the abdomen on the night of February 12, 2011 in Verchilds.

Prosecuting the matter is Counsel O'Neil Simpson who would be trying to prove that Murray stabbed Millington while he was in the trying to catch a bus to go home following an event at the Verchilds High School.

Murray is being represented by Attorney Chesley Hamilton.

Testifying yesterday was Millington, who told the Court that it was Murray who stabbed him.

He also testified that he was "rushed" by the accused earlier that night while at the event and that Murray also hit him with a stone while he was walking down the road to catch a bus.

Also providing testimony was Dr. Cameron Wilkinson who told the Court that Millington's stab wound was not life threatening.

He said Millington received a two centimetre non-penetrating laceration in the lower abdomen. Explaining “non-penetrating”, Wilkinson said nothing was punctured.

He said Millington's wound was cleaned and treated and he was placed on the Surgical Ward of the JNF General Hospital. He also told the Court that Millington was discharged two days later on February 12, 2011.

During cross-examination Dr. Wilkinson was asked if he was certain of Millington's discharge date and he replied that it is what is recorded in his medical chart.

The case continues today at the Basseterre High Court, located in the Sir Lee Lewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Services Centre.
