BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE new lighting system at Warner Park is set to be commissioned later this week with a grand celebration to take place at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.
In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes Senior Sports Officer in the Ministry of Sports Vernon Springer gave some insight into what the public can expect on Thursday (Mar. 6)
“The Ministry of Sports - under the leadership of the Minister Glen Phillip - will host the commissioning of the Warner Park Cricket Stadium lighting and visual media system at 7:30 pm on Thursday March 6. This will be a special time for the entire nation where we will get the opportunity to unveil what we have to produce to the world.”
He added that there will be performances by Ronnie Rascal and reigning Power Soca Monarch Mr. Hype as well as remarks from some high-ranking dignitaries.
“We will have appearances from Ronnie Rascal, Mr Hype and some other special appearances including speeches from the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Sports Glen Phillip, President of West Indies Cricket Board Dave Cameron and remarks from the President of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association and St. Kitts Cricket Association President.
“We will have a treat for the public. It is free and it will be a build up for the important game Leeward Islands versus Jamaica.”
Springer encouraged the public to come and witness the historic event.
“I would like the entire general public to come to Warner Park on Thursday evening. We are going to have music from 6:00. We want to make sure we invite everybody to please come to Warner Park and witness history in the making and a proud moment for all Caribbean nationals.”
The lights are expected to get their debut on Friday (Mar. 7), when the Leeward Islands are scheduled to battle Jamaica in a 4 day/night cricket encounter.
A total of 288 lights were installed as part of the project - 72 posted on each of the four poles. The project also saw a jumbotron being installed and four screens - one on each pole - which the jumbotron would feed.
