BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - UNLIKE its counterparts at the other high schools, Green House delivered a solid all-round performance yesterday (Mar. 16) to be named the 2014 Sports Day Champions of Verchild’s High School.
It was a Sports Day that saw 14 records being broke as Green House outmatched the other Houses, beating its closest competitor by over 100 points.
Leading the charge for Green House was Shafiqua Maloney who won and set records in the 400 metres, 800 metres and the 300 metre hurdles.
She was however bettered in the 200 metres and 100 metres by star athlete Shanice Elliot who won those events and also set new records.
Curvis Collins dominated the Class Three Boys sprints while also accounting for three records in those events.
In the Class Two category, a battle had ensued between Darrell Warner and Travis Douglas. Douglas got the first victory in the 200 meters with a new record, but Warner got his revenge in the 400 metres. He also set a new record in that event.
However it was Douglas who had the final laugh when he won and broke the record in the 100 metres.
Dominic Greene also set records in the 800 and 1500 metres races but, unfortunately, he had to be transported to the hospital following an accident in the hurdles.
With excellent sprinting performances within the various age groups and some degree of prowess already displayed in the field events at this month’s National Junior Championships, Verchild’s High School is poised to bring a solid all-round team to this weekend’s TDC Inter-School Championships.
Green House took the Championship with 349 points while Red House came in second with 243 and Blue House brought up the rear with 210 points.
