BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - EMERGENCY crews rushed to the scene of a traffic accident last evening (Mar. 22) where a motor jeep was deposited in the Caribbean Sea at Old Road Bay.

SKNVibes understands that the incident occurred sometime around 8:15 p.m. and involved motor jeep PA3182 which was being driven by Sanchez Rawlins of New Road.

Divisional Commander with responsibility for the Old Road area, Superintendent Cromwell Henry told SKNVibes that Rawlins was travelling westward along Old Road Bay when he collided with a utility pole and broke it in two before the vehicle landed in the Caribbean Sea at Old Road Bay.

The young man was transported via the Emergency Medical Services to the Joseph N. France General Hospital, where he is reportedly being treated for a “fractured foot and other injuries”.

Superintendent Henry informed that Rawlins remains at the medical institution as he has been warded there.

In the space of five weeks, this is the second vehicle to have been deposited in the Caribbean Sea at Old Road Bay and, according to the Superintendent, “on both occasions speed contributed to the accidents which resulted in significant injuries to occupants of the vehicles”. Both also occurred during evening hours.

As he did on the previous occasion, the Superintendent is reminding drivers “of the dangers of driving at speeds too fast...and we urge drivers to drive below the speed limit at nights and when road conditions are not conducive for high speeds”.
