BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A number of top companies in St. Kitts and Nevis have once again come onboard to sponsor the Inter-High School Championships which began yesterday (Mar. 29) at the Silver Jubilee Stadium in Bird Rock.

In a very brief handing over ceremony on Wednesday (Mar. 26) at the Silver Jubilee Stadium, the TDC Group of Companies, Western Union Money Transfer Services, which is also under the TDC umbrella, LIME and CIBC First Caribbean International Bank all handed over donations in the form of cash and kind.

The contributions were handed over to the Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA), Evris Huggins.

Huggins said that the companies have been partnering with them for some time and the SKNAAA appreciates all efforts.

TDC's Marketing Assistant Dominic Matthew, while giving that company’s contribution, said that the TDC Group has been with the SKNAAA for 37 years, which represents the entity’s commitment to not only track and field but also to the development of youths in St. Kitts and Nevis.

"We wish the SKNAAA all the very best in the next three days and may the best school win. So, on behalf of the TDC Group of Companies, it is with great pleasure we present our 2014 sponsorship package to the SKNAAA," he said.

With regards to Western Union, Matthew stated: "Three years ago, the Western Union Money Transfer Services came onboard to support track and field in St. Kitts...and we are now for the second year in a row sponsoring the Interschool Track and Field Championships.

"Western Union is very passionate about track and field...and this year it gives us much more pleasure to present our sponsorship package to the SKNAAA. We do believe in these games and we can see the potential in these games. So, on behalf of Western Union Money Transfer Services, we present our package to the SKNAAA."

LIME, which has been partnering with the Interschool Championships for some 10 years, has moved up the ladder from Silver to Gold sponsors.

LIME representatives Kevin Edwards presented Huggins with a $30 000 cheque.

Edwards said the company is "very dedicated and committed to the promotion of sports activity and positive youth development, and we are very proud to have been able to partner again this year. And not only partner but elevate our partnership to the tune of EC$30 000 in cash and in kind".

He wished all of the schools the very best in the competition and encouraged everyone to "value every moment".

CIBC First Caribbean International Bank made their first sponsorship to the event last year (2013) and has once again made a contribution.

Before presenting the bank’s donation, its representative, Mr. Gumbs said the financial institution was very pleased to once again partner with the association "because we believe in youths and the positivity of youths".

Huggins thanked all of the sponsors for their contributions and "we can guarantee you that your sponsorship would not be taken for granted. Every cent contributed to us would be used for a worthy cause".

He said the SKNAAA see events such as that as an opportunity to give the youths recreational activities and a balance of education and sports.

The TDC Inter-High School Championships began yesterday afternoon (Mar. 28) and will conclude tomorrow.
