Second voir dire in Zakers murder trial being held

District ’A’ Court
By: Court Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THIS week, the Gregory Zakers murder trial found itself entering a second voir dire to determine if another witness would be allowed to testify on behalf of the prosecution.

The voir dire is once again taking place in the absence of the jury and will be followed by legal arguments, after which a decision will be made as to whether or not the witness would give evidence in the jurors’ presence.

The first had ended with His Lordship Justice Darshan Ramdhani allowing the testimony of the witness to be heard by the jury.

Five men are currently on trial for the murder of Zakers, which took place near six years ago. The trial began last month and so far seven individuals have already testified on behalf of the prosecution.

The men are Nelson Challenger, Glenroy Smithen, Shenroy Francis, Moses Gardener and Jomi Rawlins.

Director of Public Prosecutions Travers Sinanan is lead prosecutor in the matter while the men are each being represented by a different attorney.

Challenger is being represented by the Hon. Robelto Hector, Francis by Fitzroy Eddy, Rawlins by John Cato, Smithen by Natasha Grey and Gardener by Chesley Hamilton.

The trial continues on Monday (Apr. 7).
