Private security firms commended for partnership

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 08, 2014 (SKNIS):  Private partners including the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, Urban Development Corporation and the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority were commended for their role in advancing national security. 
     
    Personnel from the various agencies; security division are currently being trained at the Police Training Complex to earn police powers under the Island Constables programme. The initiative was designed to allow the security officers who interact with students studying on island and other tourists to be better prepared and equipped if confronted with matters pertaining to law enforcement.
     
    Prime Minister and minister responsible for police the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas highlighted the importance of public-private sector partnerships in addressing national issues.
     
    “What is significant is that government continues to demonstrate its commitment and … those security firms that are already in operation are coming together in partnership with the government, allowing their persons to be trained by the national police so that they can have improved security service that will be provided, not only for their various institutions and organizations but also generally for the benefit of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” the Prime Minister stated.
     
    Prime Minister Douglas pledged that government will continue to strengthen ties with civic-minded agencies and individuals in order to enhance the economic and social fabric of society.
