Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 10, 2014 (SKNIS): The spirit of creativity and positivity of young people will be ignited on Friday (April 11) when the Department of Youth Empowerment hosts the Shine Project.
Shine is being introduced to provide positive interventions to 18 youth who were identified during participation in the department’s 30th Annual Summer Residential Camp. The programme was created to promote social and skills development through activities designed to build self esteem and encourage leadership in a fun filled environment.
The young people, whose ages range between 8 and 16, were busy on Wednesday (April 09) helping to print the logo of the project on the official t-shirts. The activity was led by creative youth activist Cheddie Bradshaw and his associate Loreal Browne.
The launch activity of the Shine Project takes place tomorrow at 9 am at the conference room of the Warner Park Football Stadium. The Minister of Youth Empowerment Honourable Glenn Phillip is scheduled to welcome the participants and deliver encouraging remarks. During the course of the one-day affair, presentations will be made on Sexuality and Sexual Health, Making Wise Choices and Setting Standards.
Project Coordinator Suelika Creque thanked Dominos Pizza and Island Bakery for supporting the Shine Project. She credited the civic minded companies for living up to their corporate/social responsibility in support of the youth population.
