BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE drama aspect of this year’s Black San LOL Night of Comedy and Drama could be described as a very interesting onstage performance about three women whose lives were changed when they became pregnant for a security guard.
Although a number of performing arts groups pulled out of the show at the last minute, one group was not only applauded for its effort and commitment, but also for its story-telling and acting capabilities.
The play, which was staged last night (Apr. 23) at the Sandy Point Hard Court, by actors of a drama group called Bosnia, told the tale of a security guard who has a wife that was seven months pregnant. Their family life was filled with a love and laughter until one forgettable day.
The lead actor, Jake, finds himself in an extramarital affair with two other women whom he does not know are friends of his wife.
In the first scene of the drama, Jake is seen escorting the two women one by one on different occasions out of his house.
In scene three, the friends bumped into each other at a bank, all pregnant, and began to talk about their babies’ fathers. What was intriguing is that Jake went under two other aliases, Lennox and Thomas. He also had two hoaxed positions at the same bank.
As friend number one heads to the teller and requests to see Thomas, the Chief Economist of the financial institution, a baffled employee notified the woman that the bank had no economist or anyone working there by that name.
The woman became annoyed and belted out a number of abusive words, which resulted in the two other women trying to calm her down.
After two other requests were made about the man with many aliases, a fight broke out among the teller and the women, resulting in one of them pulling off the teller’s wig.
This prompted the employee to call for security, but instead of Jake doing his duty to secure the employee, he took cover behind a table. The ladies in total shock then grabbed him and asked for an explanation of his action.
The women then walked out of the bank in despair.
When Jake and his wife were alone, he explained that he did not know any of the women, claiming that he had no sexual relations with them.
In the final scene of the riveting play, the wife, in her pregnant state, accepted her husband’s apology and bought his lie about never ever knowing the women.
