Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 24, 2014 (SKNIS) -- The Mentoring, Advising, Guiding and Instructing Children (M.A.G.I.C.) programme has been hailed by the Ministry of Education as a “welcomed” initiative that complements the goals of the public sector organization.
During the M.A.G.I.C. graduation ceremony of 374 primary school students on Wednesday (April 23), Chief Education Officer Clarice Cotton indicated a few years ago the Ministry of Education implemented a number of initiatives to discourage high school students from antisocial behavior making the current M.A.G.I.C. programme quite fitting for primary school students.
“Our goal in education is to produce ideal Kittitian and Nevisian citizens,” she indicated. “Citizens who are productive, citizens who stay on the right side of the law and this programme prepared them to do just that. I particularly like the part that helped them to resolve conflicts peacefully, it would help them to set meaningful goals and it will help them to stay away from drugs and violence.”
Ms. Cotton thanked the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for implementing the programme and the instructors that engaged with the students for the 10 weeks of the course. She also praised the teachers and students for enthusiastically embracing the lessons. An appeal was made to the parents and guardians of the students.
“We hope that parents will continue to ask the children what they learnt and also continue to reinforce the good things about the programme,” Ms. Cotton concluded.
