OTI to close for renovations, re-opens in December

Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, APRIL 28TH 2014 (CUOPM) – One of St. Kitts’ boutique hotels closes its doors to the public for renovation of its hotel plant.

Armed with a US$5 million loan from the Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation (SIDF), the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI) will close its doors at the end of this month and re-open for business on December 1st 2014 following its refurbishment.

However, the nearby Fisherman’s Wharf will remain open and continue to operate nightly.

OTI says substantial improvements will be made to the hotel plant, infrastructure and amenities with renovations including technologies to reduce the hotels’ energy demand as well as state of art information and telecommunication platform.

The hotel has a history that stretches back to 1969 when a private home in St. Kitts, situated on the waterfront outside of the capital, Basseterre, was turned into a hotel. Since its inception, the hotel has expanded to 65 rooms and has become one of St. Kitts most popular tourist accommodation sites.

Richard Williams & Associates has been appointed by the owners to rebrand and manage the turnaround of the Ocean Terrace Inn and over the recent months Richard Williams & Associates and OTI’s parent Company TDC have been in dialogue with the Labour Commissioner about the plans for OTI’s renovations and to ensure that OTI’s employees are well informed as to their compensation eligibility during closure.

Two weeks ago the Labour Commissioner Mr. Spencer Amory visited the Ocean Terrace Inn and met with all the OTI staff members to answer their questions and address any concerns that they had.

The company said that throughout the renovation planning process, OTI has never lost sight of its dedicated employees whose remarkable commitment to hospitality and high service standards has laid groundwork for another 45 years of success.

It noted that several of OTI’s employees have worked at the hotel for over 20 years and Richard Williams and Associates join with TDC to recognize the dedication and loyalty of all staff members particularly those who have worked at the hotel for more than 20 years and that the hotel is anxious to have them return to OTI when it re-opens in December 2014.

During the OTI renovations, the newly refurbished Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant will remain open, with dinner service Monday through Saturday from 6:30pm with its nightly Theme Nights and live entertainment. Plus the Fisherman’s Wharf will feature a new Family Brunch every Sundays starting at 11:00am.
