BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWENTY-ONE Canadian athletes who were part of a nine-day training camp in St. Kitts and Nevis have given great reviews about the Federation.

The athletes were here as part of the Bruny Surin Foundation which raises the awareness for young people to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle as well as to reduce the risk of dropping out of school.

During their nine-day stay the athletes utilised the facilities at the Silver Jubilee Stadium and also visited some of the historical sites on St. Kitts.

The Bruny Surin Foundation also awards scholarships to selected sports-study students.

Alexandre Dupris, a 110 metre hurdler, gave his views of the camp.

“It was really great! We enjoyed the weather which probably was the greatest part of the trip.””

Marie Eve Dugas, another hurdler, also commended the great weather and lauded the facility, equipment and the hospitality meted out to them.

“I really love the weather. The facilities were really nice as well and everybody was really nice with us. We had a great time here. The hotel was fantastic…all the equipment was great we had great training.”

Sprinter Jorden Savoury spoke about the benefits she gained, in what she described as a different type of training.

“For me it was different because it is a different weather and I had to adapt to that. And the training was different and I got better. I feel stronger and more focused.”

Coach Rudolph Jean stated that the warm-weather training would help the athletes transition from the indoor season to the outdoor.

“In Canada it is very cold. It helps the athletes make the transition from the indoor season to the outdoor season.”

Bruny Surin, founder of the Bruny Surin Foundation and former Olympic gold medallist, described the camp as successful and promised to return in the future.

“The camp was very successful! Last night I asked the feedback of the athletes and they really enjoyed the experience. For some of them it was their first time experiencing something like this.

“It was a professional camp…professional surface and I think they are going back home and everything they learn from here is going to help them in their career. I would like to thanks Vernon Springer because he facilitated our stay. We are going to come back for sure.”

The camp was help as part of a partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Athletics Canada.
