    Tuesday April 29th 2014 – The Environmental Health Division is informing owners, managers and food handlers of food establishments on Anegada that an Environmental Health Officer will be visiting the island from May 2 to 16.

     

     The purpose of the visit According to the Deputy Chief Environmental Health Officer, Mrs. Yolanda Penn is to conduct food handlers’ and educational sessions as well as to register and inspect food handling establishments.

     

    “ Institution inspection  will be held on  May 2, food handlers’ inspection will take place on  May 5, 9, 12,and 16 and food handlers class will be conducted on May 7 and 14,” Mrs. Penn told the Department of Information and Public Relations.

     

     All Sessions will be held at the Emile Dunlop Community Centre between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and noon, and 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

     

     “All food handlers are required to attend one of the sessions to renew their expired permits and or to acquire a new one,” Mrs. Penn stated.

     

     Persons renewing their food handler’s certificate are asked to bring their expired certificate, work permit and/or picture identification. Persons seeking to obtain a food handlers’ certificate for the first time are asked to bring the result of their stool analysis test, work permit and /or picture identification, social security card and one recent passport size photograph.

     

    Mrs. Penn also reminded owners and operators of food businesses to ensure that their businesses are registered with the Division during this time.  “Businesses should also have a copy of their 2014 Trade License to complete the registration process,” Mrs. Penn noted.

     

    The Environmental Health Division is committed to ensuring that all aspects of the environment with the potential to negatively impact health are managed efficiently to enable all persons in the BVI to attain and maintain optimal health and social well-being.
