BASSETERRE St. Kitts, April 30th, 2014 -- The St.Kitts-Nevis main opposition party, the Peoples Action Movement, have finalized the date and venue for their 49th annual convention. Party Leader Hon. Shawn K. Richards indicated that he and his party are keenly looking forward to the staging of the event which will be just his second convention as the Party Leader.
“I am pleased to announce that our annual convention takes place on Sunday May 25th at Party Headquarters,” said Party Leader Hon. Shawn K. Richards
The Party’s convention will be within weeks after the party’s caucus which is scheduled for Wednesday May 7th at the OOJJ’s Convention Center at 6:30pm. The caucus is the forum at which delegates of the party will decide on the executive that will guide the work of the movement for the next year. The Caucus sees scores of the party’s rank and file representing the eight constituencies essentially vote for the elected positions of the organization.
Fifteen representatives selected by each of the eight constituencies are represented at the caucus. The National Women’s Group along with the National Young Pamites are entitled to three delegates each and all the outgoing members of the executive are also entitled to be represented and have a vote. Thus the event will see over 200 persons as many observers often attend.
The 48th edition of the annual convention held in 2013 was graced by guest keynote speaker the Hon. Thaddeus Hollis Chairman of the ruling One Bermuda Alliance [OBA] chairman in Bermuda. The party is expected to announce the very esteemed guest speaker for this years convention shortly.
