SKN to be represented at IAAF World Relays

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A contingent from St. Kitts and Nevis is expected to be present at the inaugural IAAF World Relays which will be hosted in the Bahamas next month.

     

    Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) Evris Huggins confirmed to this publication that the Federation would be represented at the meet.

    He however declared that he could not speak much about it until the logistics are ratified by the SKNAAA, but indicated that a team and officials have already been selected.

    The inaugural IAAF World Relays will be held at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Bahamas, which has a seating capacity of 15 000.

    The event will bring together the best athletes in the world. It is expected that most of the sprint and middle distance medalists from the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2013 IAAF World Championships will be present.

    The IAAF World Relays will be held in Nassau for two consecutive years; the first edition will take place on May 24 and 25, 2014.

    The relays is under the aegis of the International Association of Athletics Federation and, to date, will the biggest sporting event to be held in The Bahamas.

    The 2014 IAAF World Relays will serve as a qualifying competition for the 2015 IAAF World Championships and will see 700 athletes and 300 team officials from 40 countries.

    The following are relay races will be held: 4x100 meters, 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m and 4 x1,500m, with the first three having qualifying rounds.
