Basseterre, May 1st 2014 - Sixty seven students from four campuses of the University of the West Indies (UWI) were awarded Open Scholarships for the 2013/2014 academic year.
Recipients were awarded based on high academic achievements in CSEC/CAPE, or the results of their prior academic institutions such as community or state college for those students who have completed an Associate Degree or UWI students who have completed their first year.
This year’s awardees were from Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Trinidad and Tobago.
The UWI Open Scholarship is the most prestigious of the regional scholarships administered by the Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies (OBUS), UWI and it is funded by the 16 governments of the region on an annual basis. Recipients receive full tuition fees and miscellaneous charges; full hall fees for on-campus accommodation OR US$2000 towards off-campus accommodation; book allowance US$500 and a meal allowance of US$2000.
The online application for the UWI Open Scholarships which is advertised over a four-month period, coincides with the UWI applications for entry to general undergraduate degree programmes through each Campus website. Awardees have the choice to pursue any government-sponsored undergraduate degree on each of the UWI’s four campuses. All applicants should be CARICOM nationals.
