BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN maintaining its commitment to preserving the nation’s history and heritage, the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank has renewed its partnership with the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society (BHFNPS) in its History and Heritage Week of Activities.

The History and Heritage Week of Activities, which began on February 15, was organized by the BHFNPS under the theme “Reclaiming our roots: our environment, our heritage, our people”. The week of events included an ecumenical church service, radio and television discussions, a food fair, a history hike, and lectures to students and the general public in order to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Federation’s history.

The financial institution issued a statement saying, “National Bank takes pride in partnering with the History and Heritage Week Committee as it endeavours to encourage all citizens within our federation to embrace our history, honour our heritage and nurture civic pride. Our historic sites help us to understand who we are and where we came from – individually and as a nation, and our history provides inspiration for new ideas and solutions to the problems we face today.

“Knowing our history provides us with the opportunity to learn from past mistakes. We urge all Nationals to get involved with events that promote our history, and to ensure the preservation for our historic sites and buildings, so that future generations can enjoy and learn from our rich heritage.”

Marketing Officer Shirna Pemberton told SKNVibes that National Bank has had a four-year partnership in which it has sponsored the week of events. She added that the Bank intends to strengthen the partnership as it continues to stress the importance of preservation of heritage and history.

“We understand our role as a corporate citizen in the Federation and when we sponsored this compact programme of activities, we knew many persons would be reached and be encouraged to embrace history and heritage. We must be able to understand who we are not only as individuals but also as a people, and National Bank is sincerely committed to this,” Pemberton said.

According to BHFNPS President, Sir Probyn Inniss, “The Brimstone Hill Society applauds National Bank as an outstanding corporate citizen which has assumed an active role in generating awareness for programmes that enrich and support the communities of St Kitts and Nevis.”

The Bank has sponsored a number of related activities including National Carnival, Culturama and Music Festival, all intended to preserve history and promote awareness of the nation’s rich heritage.
