Nevis Island Administration

Charlestown Nevis (March 2, 2004) Commanders of the Nevis Division of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force, on Saturday February 28, delivered on one of their promises to their juniors, when they officially awarded the officers for their hard work and dedication.

At the first ever service awards ceremony held at the Old Manor Hotel in Gingerland, No 504 Constable Royston Isaac emerged from his peers of eleven, as Constable of the year 2003 and received his plaque from the Deputy Governor General, His Honour Mr. Eustace John.

His peers consisted of two females and nine males, each receiving due recognition for their outstanding work during the year 2003.  Each officer was awarded for their contribution to different sections such as Immigration Department, Traffic Department and Beat and Patrol. They received certificates, prizes and dinner for two.

Constable Isaac, who delivered his acceptance speech, noted that it was a special moment for the officers of the Nevis Division to be recognised for being outstanding in discharging their duties during the year.  “Indeed, it is specially gratifying for me to be selected as the overall best constable and I would like to commend the members of the strategic planning committee for this initiative,” commented Constable Isaac.

Being the most outstanding officer in the Criminal Investigation Department, Constable Isaac applauded the efforts as a positive step taken by his seniors in setting aside time to recognise the officers who had gone the extra mile to ensure that the people’s business was done.

As overwhelmed as he was, he cautioned his fellow awardees to continue to do their best. “Lets not rest on our laurels, let us strive to be pace setters and as role models worthy of emulations and let us continue to be diligent in giving our employers and tax payers value for their money.”

Commissioner of Police, Mr. J Calvin Fahie in giving brief remarks noted that it was a distinct privilege for him to deliver words of admonition as he expressed certain sentiments and echoed that a man can succeed at anything for which he has unlimited enthusiasms.

He told the officers to continue to give quality service and strive for excellence.  “Let me remind you that the highest reward for one’s improvement is not what he gets for it, is what he becomes as a result of it.  Try to improve because it makes you a better person, remember the mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited,” intimated Commissioner Fahie.

The function was geared towards publicly acknowledging and validating the constables and to prove to them that their hard work and dedication were deeply appreciated.  The criteria used to determine who would be awarded, was discipline, attitude towards their work, efficiency, effectiveness and the infrequency of sick reports.

“The success is the reduction of the crime rate not by our target of 15 to 20% but by the divine intervention of a miraculous 36% and the detection rate rose from 41% in 2002 to 54% in 2003,” said Inspector Cecil Morgan, Commander of the Nevis Division as he delivered brief remarks.

The other officers were, No 226 W/Constable, Marva Chiverton, No 311 Const Theodore Glasford, No 319 Const Reynold Myers, No 321 Const Sean John, No 426 Const Ali Jeffers, No 509 W/Const Erleen Phipps, No 583 Const Jason Audain, No 591 Const Ray Gordon, No 595 Const Delroy Harris and No 599 Const Shane James.
