By: PR Agency, Press Release

Toronto, Canada, May 2nd, 2014  --  International reggae singer Alvin James Brown, aka AJ Brown, who has been a prominent figure in Jamaica's popular music for almost four decades will be presented with the "Reggae Ambassador Award" in Canada by the Ardenne Alumni Association (Toronto chapter) on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at their Annual Mother’s Day Concert & Luncheon. This will be Brown's first award by a Canadian based organization.

"I am really humbled by the gesture" Brown said.

"Music has been my life for the past 30 odd years. It is what I love to do. I am just thankful for the outpouring of love and support I am getting from fans and from those who appreciate what I have done for reggae and for Jamaica" the singer said.

AJ, who recently took over as lead vocalist of acclaimed reggae group Third World, began his career on the north coast of Jamaica in the 70s. He was then recruited by the Jamaican Tourist Board to promote the island in North America and Europe. His notoriety spread and by the early 80s he was recognised as Jamaica’s leading cabaret singer. In 1984, he released his debut single "Love People," that was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Club Paradise. His vocals were also featured in "The Howling III" and "The Fourth Protocol." Brown was also a regular performer in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA and has released popular songs like ‘We Need To Learn’, ‘Beautiful Lady’ and ‘Words Of Wisdom’

"We are elated to honor AJ for his outstanding contribution to reggae and by extension Jamaica. His achievements are impressive and qualifies him as a true ambassador of our music and our county. We look forward to presenting him with this special award and have him entertain patrons at our mother's day event this year" Mark White, Vice President of the Ardenne Alumni Association disclosed.
