St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association promised a very exciting match up between two of the juggernauts of the SKNFA Premier Division

Press Release

Basseterre, May 8th 2014 - On Tuesday 6th May 2014, the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association promised a very exciting match up between two of the juggernauts of the SKNFA Premier Division. Ram’s Village Superstars were scheduled to face off against Winner’s Circle Newtown United. However, this much anticipated encounter did not materialize as both teams showed up wearing red jersey, pants and socks according to the Referee’s Report.

An amicable resolution of the situation by both teams and officials could not be met by match time and therefore the match officials decided to call off the match.

On Wednesday 7th May 2014, the SKNFA Executive Committee met to review the incident and decided as follows:

    In Accordance to Rule 6 (G & H):

    g) The team listed first on the fixture is considered to be the Home Team while the other team listed second is considered to be the Away Team.

    h) The Home Team is the team that has the right to play in its first choice kit (home kit). However, if both team officials and the game officials rule otherwise then teams will be allowed to change colors to ensure the match is played.

Therefore, the SKNFA has ruled that Winners Circle Newtown United (Away Team for the said match) abandoned the match by refusing to change to their second choice jersey. The outcome of the match has therefore been decided in accordance with Rule 14 (b):

    b) A team that loses a match by abandonment will not be awarded points or goals while the opposing team shall be awarded three points as if it were a match won with a minimum of three (3) goals. The losing team will incur a fine not exceeding EC $5000.00 and reported to the Disciplinary Committee for further action.

Further, the Winners Circle Newtown United F.C has been fined the sum of EC $1500.00 and has been reported to the SKNFA Disciplinary Committee.

The St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association wishes to apologize for the unfortunate occurrence, and would like to assure the general public and loyal fans that everything is being done to avoid repetition.
