Press Release

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour is encouraging the public to engage in online discussions on topics surrounding the effects of Climate Change.

The objective of the discussions is to raise public consciousness by promoting an understanding of essential linkages between the preservation of the environment and the development of our Territory.

People are encouraged to add to the discussion by tweeting or re-tweeting their ideas on a variety of climate change topics including developmental, economical, health–related and environmental concerns, using the campaign’s hashtag: #BVIClimate and or directing comments to @BVIGovernment on Twitter or Facebook. Subsequently, persons are also encouraged to write to the Ministry concerning such Climate Change matters at nrl@gov.vg .

On Tuesday, May 6, Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. the Honourable Kedrick Pickering launched Government’s Climate Change Awareness Campaign to raise the profile of the environment, which incorporates social media and traditional communications.

He said, “‘Raising the profile of the environment’, is high on the agenda of the Ministry, for there is no tourism without the environment. Our Ministry is making a serious effort to get persons to understand the importance of the environment and the preservation efforts made by Government.”

Apart from the social media aspect, the public can look forward to obtaining information on Climate Change through several public presentations in schools and organisations, public service announcements, and GIS TV and radio programming.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour endeavours to effectively administer the natural resources of the Territory in a manner that ensures long term sustainability.
