BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN its continued sponsorship towards the development of young athletes in the Federation, Carib Brewery (St. Kitts-Nevis) Limited on Thursday (May 15) presented a large number of trophies and medals to three schools on St. Kitts.

The presentations were part of the company’s sponsorship of some 17 primary and secondary schools’ Sports Day held in March this year.

Kenrick Isaac, Carib Brewery’s Brand Manager for Giant Malt, under whose brand the events were sponsored, told SKNVibes Business that the company has been partnering with student athletes for over 19 years in the Federation, and that 2014 is no exception.

“This year, 2014, Carib Brewery has been involved with the sponsorship of all athletic schools, both primary and secondary. We have sponsored nine primary schools and eight secondary schools in St. Kitts and Nevis and it’s all in the good of being a corporate sponsor in helping to promote the sport of athletics.

“Our plans are, for upcoming years, to continue with this venture on St. Kitts and Nevis…all schools alike. And from time to time we would get requests as to how they could qualify to get sponsorship, and we would inform them that all they have to do is send a note to us and we would basically have a talk with the teachers and students and add the school on the list,” Isaac said.

Isaac however declared that in 2014 the company had a problem with requests from some schools arriving very late, and he advised that for athletic meets in 2015, schools requesting sponsorship must inform Carib Brewery no later than December 2014.

Principal of Bronte Welsh Primary School, Anthony Wilshire thanked Carib Brewery for its continued support towards the athletes’ development at the institution.

“I want to make the record straight that we very thankful to Carib Brewery for their sponsorship of our Sports Day. Any industry or individual out there who would contribute to any school foundation must be applauded.”

He added that not many individuals would see the long term benefit of such sponsorship from the Brewery.

“We have potential athletes. In fact, we participated in the RAM’s Primary School Championship in March and out of 19 schools Bronte Welsh place 11th with one gold medal in the Under-11 age category,” the Principal explained.

Wiltshire noted that presenting the school with the prizes is an added motivation for the students to work even harder not only on the track but also in the classroom.

The Principals and Sports Day organisers at Sandy Point Primary School and Charles E Mills Secondary School also commended Carib Brewery for its support for their individual Sports Day held in March.

“We have been sponsored by Carib for a number of years,” said Doreen Burt-Queeley, teacher and Sports Organiser at Sandy Point Primary, adding that “things are hard and the school cannot do it alone, and for Carib coming on board for all these years must be commended and we applaud them and we congratulate them for giving back to the community”.

Charles E Mills’ Principal, Carla Mills-Diamond, noted that the sponsorship from the business entity has been significant over the years.

She declared that this year has seen an increase in student participation and training, which was highlighted during the school’s dominance at the National Championships held at the Silver Jubilee Stadium.

“This year many more students were training because we always know of our athletes, and this year we see that potential come to light,” she stated.

The company churned out some $50 000 in sponsorship by providing more than 5 000 medals to over 1 000 student athletes within the Federation.
