    Thursday, May 22, 2014 - Residents on Virgin Gorda were given a detailed presentation on the rehabilitation of roads and drains along Lee Road, Virgin Gorda.

     

    The presentation, which focused on the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) loan funded project in the area, was made last evening, May 21, by Engineering Consultant Mr. Dwayne Monrose of FDL Consult Inc. 

    Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool said it is important to conduct these meetings to share valuable information with the public; adding, “The Government remains accountable to the people.”  

    The scope of works for the project includes construction and rehabilitation of both the road pavement and drainage structures from SOL Gas Station along Lee Road to the Catholic Community Centre on Lee Road, Virgin Gorda. The project is expected to begin in the next few weeks and will be completed within six to eight months.

    Residents, including Ninth District Representative, Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal,   use this forum to express their concerns for other infrastructural issues in the community. Honourable Vanterpool, assured residents that the ministry will move expeditiously in rectifying other areas of concern.

    Minister Vanterpool commented on other infrastructural developments on Virgin Gorda that is expected to begin in the next few months. These upcoming developments includes an improved passenger dock, more lighting, making the Spanish Town area more aesthetically pleasing, installation of guard rails on alternate road to North Sound, and a phase two of the rehabilitation of roads and drains on Lee Road.

    This community meeting was the last meeting in a series of meetings hosted by the ministry over the past few weeks. The other meetings, which were held on Tortola, focused on the Pleasant Valley Road and Bridge rehabilitation, Fortune Ghut rehabilitation of roads and culverts and Ballast Bay Road and Drainage.

    This project is part of the $15.7 million Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Loan Infrastructural Development Programme to undertake rehabilitation work to roads and bridges damaged by heavy rainfall during the passage of Sub-Tropical Storm Otto, in 2010.
