BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TEAM St. Kitts and Nevis yesterday (May 24) copped a silver medal in the 4x200m at the inaugural IAAF World Relays being held in The Bahamas.
The quartet, Antoine Adams, Lestrod Roland, Brijesh Lawrence and Allistar Clarke, running from lane eight made history as they set a new national record in that event trailing Jamaica which won the first prize of US$50 000 and a world record bonus of US$50 000.
The race got off to a very fast start with St. Kitts and Nevis competing the first three legs with teams Jamaica and USA with the latter having difficulty on the second handover, leaving a battle for supremacy between the two islands. In the end however, Yohan Blake was of a different class and sped Jamaica to victory with St. Kitts and Nevis in second spot.
The team is slated to compete today in the 4x100m with the preliminary rounds at 5:30 p.m. and the finals later that evening.
St. Kitts and Nevis’ time of 1:20.51 is also the third fastest ever in the 4x200m.
