Best in Class High School Quiz Competition three-peat win for Basseterre High School

    BIRD ROCK, May 23, 2014 (St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority) – After one month of intense competition, the culmination of SCASPA’s fourth annual Best In Class High School Quiz Competition was witnessed by supporters and well wishers of Basseterre High and Charles E. Mills Secondary Schools at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank on May 22, 2014.

     

    Quiandra Pemberton, Rikki Blake-Brookes, Charis Herbert and Chezyown Warner represented the Basseterre High School and Dottica Taylor, Kevida Bowry, Tiana Challenger and Dottisha Taylor represented the Charles E. Mills Secondary School. 
     
    The third formers students were quizzed on curriculum based subject areas such as English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science Local History and Geography; in addition to Current Affairs, and SCASPA Affairs. 
     
    At the end of the evening, the Basseterre High School with 150 points, was declared,  SCASPA Best in Class High School Champion, for the third year in a row. The three-peat Champion, Basseterre High School was followed by Charles E. Mills Secondary with 70 points. The Verchilds High School placed third in the Competition. Most Outstanding student throughout the entire Competition was Quiandra Pemberton, Leader of Basseterre High School’s team who scored a total of 275 points. 
     
    Following the competition was an awards ceremony whereby students from all of the participating schools received numerous awards; and the winning teams received monetary prizes and awards which were distributed by the Chairman of SCASPA, Mr. Carol Evelyn and Chief Executive Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Jonathan Bass.
     
    Chief Executive Officer of SCASPA, Mr. Jonathan Bass declared the Competition a tremendous success.
     
    “We are pleased with the quality of our competition this year. We have seen an improvement in the subject areas of Mathematics and English as well as the overall Competition. The students did their schools proud and we must commend the students who participated in this year’s competition for an excellent display of brilliance. This is the academic competition of the year and SCASPA will continue to reward academic excellence in our Federation, help to strengthen students’ general knowledge in the curriculum subject areas and generate a greater understanding of the Authority’s role in national development.”
     
    The Best in Class High School Quiz Competition was held on May, 6, 8, 13, 15 and 22 at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. Six schools, Basseterre High, Cayon High, Charles E. Mills Secondary, Verchilds High, Saddlers Secondary, Washington Archibald High, entered this year’s competition; one school was eliminated on each night of competition. 
     
    St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority provides the gateway to St. Kitts, operating the Port Zante Cruise Ship Terminal, the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport, the Basseterre Deep Water (Cargo) Port and Ferry Dock.
