Dishonest practices and lack of transparency of St. Kitts and Nevis Government led to US advisory

Dr Harris Answers Question at Recent Townhall Meeting
By: Team UNITY, Press Release TUCOM

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 26th  2014 (TUCOM)   --  The May 20th Advisory by the USA Treasury Department  on the abuse of the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Programme could have been avoided if the illegitimate Douglas regime had been honest and transparent with the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and with the government of the USA.

According to Team Unity’s Leader Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, had Douglas illegitimate regime kept its word and ceased the issuance of citizenship to Iranians and Afghans as it promised the USA and Canada government in 2013, the threat to the citizenship programme would have been averted.  Instead in their culture of corruption, lies and avarice, the regime issued passports to persons of dubious character resulting in the USA government issuing an advisory warning financial institutions to be on guard for illicit financial activities being committed by holders of St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship. Dr Harris predicted other sanctions will come unless the culture of corruption, avarice and lack of accountability that characterizes the Douglas illegitimate regime’s modus operandi changes. He opined that Douglas was not committed to transparency and accountability.

Last July, Patrice Nisbett told the Douglas illegitimate government that the CBI programme needed to be overhauled to overcome the charges of corruption, lack of accountability and fraudulent issuance of passports. On July 11, 2013in a Cabinet paper, Minister Nisbett told Denzil Douglas cabinet that at least one individual implicated on fraud had  acquired citizenship under the St. Kitts and nevis Citizenship by Investment Programme, in contravention of our own regulations.

Minister Nisbett warned Douglas Cabinet that economic citizens of St Kitts and Nevis were using our passport to enter Canada and then apply for refugee status.  Minister Nisbett further advised the illegitimate regime that the due diligence in the St Kitts and Nevis citizenship programme was inadequate resulting in some persons acquiring citizenship even after they would have been denied visas to enter Canada and the tendency for them to use the St. Kitts and Nevis passports to gain access to Canada, thereby circumventing the relevant laws of that country.

Despite the advice given to it the corrupt Douglas regime continued without taking action to remedy the corrupt manipulation of its citizenship by investment programme.  In April US officials warned the illegitimate regime to end its corrupt practices.  The failure of the government to act properly, transparently and honestly left the US government with no choice but to issue the advisory.

Knowledgeable persons are suggesting further censure and sanctions are likely and economic citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis will likely be denied access to USA on St. Kitts and Nevis passports.

For years persons have been asking the illegitimate regime to commit to good governance, transparency and accountability. The Douglas regime has been opposed to such values.  It has for example set up the Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation as a private foundation with lackeys of the illegitimate Prime Minister serving as councillors.

The SIDF has not yet published accounts for 2012 and 2013. It is being operated as a Slush Fund to support the political electioneering campaign of the Douglas illegitimate regime.  Calls for transparency have again fallen on deaf ears.

Team Unity is committed to a transparent Citizenship by Investment Programme that meets international best practices and which does not compromise security and financial space of other nations.
