Sugar Girlz hammer Turks & Caicos

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE St. Kitts and Nevis Female Football team has climbed to the top of the ranking of the inaugural Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Caribbean Cup Tournament in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

     

    In their first game, St. Kitts and Nevis defeated Cayman Islands 5-nil and looked to carry the momentum into the second game.

    According to the Caribbean Footballl Union’s official Website, St. Kitts and Nevis continued their dominance of the group as goals came from Phoenetia Browne in the fifth and 24th minutes, while Caroline Springer added a third in the 48th and Lavern Frances provided final touch in the 62nd for a decisive win over the home team.

    In the other game of the group, Bermuda shared the points with Cayman Islands as their encounter ended 2-all.

    St Kitts and Nevis now lead Group Three with six points, with Bermuda in second place on four. Games will continue tomorrow Tuesday (May 27) as St. Kitts and Nevis meet Bermuda at 5:00 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. Turks and Caicos Islands go head to head with Cayman Islands.

    This is the official qualification tournament in the Caribbean Zone for both the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Eight teams will feature the four first round group winners - the two best overall second place teams from the Groups One, Three, Four and Five and the host country Trinidad & Tobago.
