CIC President re-elected and committed to serve

Mark Wilkin re-elected as CIC president
By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RECENTLY re-elected President of St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) Mark Wilkin has declared that during his repeated tenure of presidency the Chamber’s objectives would encourage more membership participation, increase number of active members and continue to enhance the nation’s private sector.

Wilkin, who is also Managing Director of Carib Brewery (St. Kitts-Nevis) Ltd, was elected for his second consecutive presidential term at the recently held 60th Annual General Meeting of the Chamber. Michael Morton of TDC Ltd. and Marcella Monish of Lanns-Monish and Associates were also re-elected to serve in the posts of Vice President and Treasurer respectively.

In accepting his re-election as President, Wilkin said he was honoured to serve in a leadership capacity, and thanked the outgoing Board Members for their support during the past year. He outlined a number of areas on which more emphasis would be placed.

“One of our main objectives is getting much better participation for all members of the private sector. One of the most difficult things is to get people to commit to events and activities of the Chamber because there is so much work for us to do.

“We shall also be focusing our efforts on attracting more businesses and service-providers within the private sector to be members of CIC. There are just about 1000 private businesses registered in the country yet we only have a membership of approximately 100. And so, we hope to execute a massive recruitment drive for the Chamber.

“We will certainly continue to provide the necessary information on domestic, regional and international markets ensuring that our members are in a more informed position to face the ongoing financial and economic challenges,” Wilkin said in an exclusive interview with SKNVibes.

Special gratitude was extended to the two Directors retiring from the Board: Anthony Kelsick of SL Horsford & Co. Ltd. and Charles Wilkin Q.C. of Kelsick Wilkin & Ferdinand. The CIC head added that past presidents and directors have worked tirelessly making many sacrifices and commitments to ensure that the Chamber could be fully functional today.

Other elected Directors include Tapley Seaton Q.C. of Seaton and Foreman, Mahesh Nariani of Sun Island Clothes, Hobson Enterprises’ Damien Hobson, Dimitrios Adamopoulos representing the Bank of Nova Scotia and Betty-Ann Gilbert of Innovative Transport.

Other members of the new Board are Carol Evelyn of API Harowe Servo Controls Ltd., Mark Theron from Caribbean Canvas, and Immediate Past President Franklin Brand of Island Bakeries Ltd.
