Kittitian Club (St. Thomas) makes donation to Senior Club in St. Kitts

By: Lorna Callender, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IT WAS A HAPPY AFFAIR on Tuesday May 20, 2014 when two members of the Kittitians in Paradise Association (KIPA) of St. Thomas attended the weekly meeting of the Moravian Senior Club of St. Kitts.

This was their second visit but this time around they came bearing gifts. The gift was a state of the art Speaker System for use by the local senior club at their meetings.

President of KIPA, Mr. Vincent Liburd, recalled that on his first visit he had noted that some members had difficulty hearing members at the ‘head table’ and decided that a good Speaker system would solve that problem.

On this trip he was accompanied by the Chairperson of their Association’s Fundraising Committee, Ms Rosalie Bedford, who also spoke at the meeting. Together they indicated that they were so impressed at the previous meeting that they felt moved to do something for the local club. They were therefore happy to be here again, this time to present the Speaker System which would help to enhance their meetings.

The Audio System is mounted on a tripod and has one fixed mike attached by an extended cord, and a cordless mike which can be passed around the room to facilitate speaking by individual members.  This is particularly valuable for those with limited mobility.

It did not take long for members to put the system to the test as the rest of the programme consisted of a programme of entertainment. As members sang, recited poems, gave jokes or performed skits, the mike was passed around the room and its usefulness was immediately demonstrated.

President Liburd of St. Thomas brought greetings from members there as did Ms Bedford who accompanied him. They admitted that they were so impressed by the activities of the local Club that they had even ‘stolen’ items of entertainment they had witnessed here.

Ms Vanta Archibald, President of the St. Kitts Senior Club, profusely thanked the KIPA members for their invaluable gift and asked them to convey their best wishes to their counterparts in St. Thomas.

At the end of the meeting members socialised with refreshments. With the experience of years, they provided some extremely refreshing local drinks and very tasty sandwiches and finger foods.

All were able to leave the meeting very satiated in body and very grateful in spirit
