Untapped tourist markets to be targeted during CPL

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis will be exposed to new markets during the hosting of nine Caribbean Premier League matches at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

In an exclusive interview with this publication, Minster of Sports Glen Phillip disclosed that during the CPL a five-minute clip of St. Kitts and Nevis would be shown to the viewers of the games worldwide.

“One of the contractual arrangements we have made is that every single game that is shown outside of the country, it could be in India, Sri Lanka or Austrailia, we get five minutes every day to feature St. Kitts and Nevis in a positive way.”

Phillip also stated that the Federation would be advertised to markets previously untapped as potential tourist targets.

“In terms of tourism, those are markets that we have not accessed and these are persons who will be seeing St. Kitts for the very first time. Think about it! Over one billion people are in India and 100 million outside of that might be looking at CPL and St. Kitts and Nevis will be exposed to those people.”

The Minister also stated that the CPL would allow the Federation to see a large influx of overseas tourists, since they have already started receiving request from markets in Asia, North America and Europe.

He declared that it is expected that some 4 000 stay-over spectators would be in the Federation during the week of these matches.

This year, organisers of the ‘Biggest Party in Sport’, CPL, have allocated more matches to territories that do not have any franchise, and St. Kitts is expected to host six preliminary matches, two Semi-Finals and the Grand Final.
