BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TAIWAN is showing no signs of slowing down on its quest to not only transform itself but the entire world into a green place. With the use of natural resources and technology, the country is constantly creating new products or upgrading existing ones, all in an effort to further the call for environmental protection.

One such product is the 'Thin-film Silicon Solar Photovoltaic', which is a solar panel like no other. Created with the ability to be installed just about anywhere one can think of, this product is bound to encourage anyone to go green.

At a recent visit to NexPower Technology Corporation in Taichung City, Taiwan, the company behind this revolutionary product, several media personnel from around the world met with the Director Cooke Lai, Vice President Lance Chang and Deputy Division Director William Wei; and learned about the product.

Established in 2005, NexPower is committed to taking solar energy to the next level by advancing the development and applications of solar PV technologies with the use of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV).

According to Director Lai, NexPower is the number four producer of thin-film Solar PV and is equipped with its own laboratory to ensure the quality of its products. The Solar PV comes in wide varieties that are easily installed and very reliable.

The solar PV could be placed on the ground, on rooftops, on the outside of buildings or even replace the windows in cars. Although lighter, they generate more energy from the sun and can withstand most natural disasters, including typhoons.

Another thing that sets this product above the rest is its ability to draw more energy than regular solar panels. The thin-film's high absorption capability also allows for it to draw maximum energy even in weak sunlight.

The products are further designed with the ability to have photos, drawings, paintings and even LED lights placed on the inside for a more fashionable look on the outside.

Another company geared towards having a fully-green economy is Sanyeu Building Materials Company Ltd.

From ecological tiles to LED lights, Sanyeu has taken the concept of green living to another level and has made itself a one-stop shop for everything green when one considers building a company or even their own home.

Sanyeu was established in 1970 as a tile dealer. The company now specialises in the production of stylish, inexpensive green building materials that are ecological and healthy for the environment.

A major success comes from Sanyeu's use of bamboo, which is just one of the many natural resources used to create building materials for both the business sector and homes.

As explained by Sanyeu's Director General Chen Tung Ching, bamboo - which grows in abundance in Taichung City, Taiwan - comes with "a lot of ventilation holes" which makes it easy to maintain temperature at a comfortable level.

"It is an excellent ecological material," he said.

The company also specialises in the absorption of moisture, reduction of mold and dust mites and cleans indoor air. This product also comes in a variety of designs and colours from which to choose.

With the growing need for going green, Taiwan is paving the way for such to be possible. The Formosa isle is making its way to the top of the list where environmental protection is concerned.
