BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 31st 2014 (TUCOM):-A call has been made by Team Unity’s Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris for the Music Festival “to produce legacy benefits for our people beyond the production of a concert. It cannot be that all we can do is to host a super concert with millions going abroad to pay band and artistes and a pittance remaining here for the 20 to 30 minutes of fame accorded to our rising stars.”
Dr. Harris was speaking to a packed and overflowing crowd at a Town Hall meeting in Conaree.
“We must better conceive the Music Festival in the context of transformation of the lives of our people and the enrichment and empowerment of our people and culture.”
The entertainment industry is a multibillion dollar industry with its different genre of entertainment. For Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados it is a major growth industry with support services developing around it.
For all the hype about the Music Festival, and the promotion of culture our local artistes are not making a living from their talents. Our Infamuses, our Nicha Bs, our Hilights, our Footsies and Jah Fires, our calypsonians have not really witnessed the kind of transformation of their lifestyles from the Music Festival and the outgoing government policy’s on culture.
Team Unity will soon issue a policy paper for discussion on Music Festival and its vision of an entertainment industry which pulls and transforms young people in particular.
