Logon to vibesantigua.com... Antigua News
By: UPP, Press Release

June 2nd, 2014  --  The UPP and many of our fellow Antiguans and Barbudans are bewildered by most of the ALP’s manifesto promises, many of which are either nonsensical or will actually damage our country.

The ALP plans to remove customs procedures that prevent illegal goods from entering our country. Considering that figures within the Labour Party including Molwyn Joseph have previously been involved in improprieties related to importing goods, this is an issue.

The Labour Party manifesto frequently references Gaston Browne’s “success” as a banker, which is troubling because his employment at the Swiss-American Bank took place at a time that the bank was participating in fraud and illegal activity. These activities were documented in US Government investigations.

The much-discussed write-off of debts to APUA remains a desperate gamble at best, and at worst a dictatorial policy that will help nobody and will bankrupt our public utilities provider.

Moreover, Antiguans and Barbudans have seen little regarding how these policies will be paid for. The seriousness of this problem is increased by the fact that the Antigua Labour Party has promised to remove taxes that bring revenue to the state. This revenue allows the government to pay for public services such as schools, medical clinics and roads. This unexplained expenditure is a further indication of the Dolly House economics that the ALP subscribes to.

The only way that the Labour Party will be able to pay for their bizarre promises would be for tax revenues to grow at a rate that would require our economy to start growing faster than China’s.

All these charity hand-outs and write-offs are nothing more than ‘back-of-an-envelope’ policies, maybe made up while the ALP were eating their lunch. It is Dolly House economics.

Basic laws of economics and principles of sound fiscal policy seem to have been completely ignored by the Labour Party.

They are promising all kinds of things, but they will bring our country to its knees.
